Preparing Your Home for Fall Without Wishing Summer Away

One thing I've noticed is that by late July and early August, social media is already filled with pumpkins, sweaters, and "fall is here" content—even though there's still a month or more of summer left.

Big box retailers like Walmart, Dollar General and Target are prepped and ready to up-sell on Fall/Halloween items, as your Caramel Frappuccino slowly melts from the AUGUST heat. Yes, some areas like South Carolina are heading back to school, I see the thrill in wanting to hurry up and buy the newest decor’, scents and be the first in neighborhood to place that beautiful fall colored wreath on the front door. But, what if there was a better way to prepare for the Autumn season without the outward expression of income driven purposes?

No pumpkins required

Every year it seems to happen a little earlier.

By the middle of summer, pumpkins begin appearing in stores. Cozy blankets find their way to the front of every display, cinnamon candles line the shelves, and social media fills with talk of crisp mornings, sweaters, and everything autumn.

Don't misunderstand us—we love fall.

We look forward to cool evenings around a bonfire, fresh apple cider, family gatherings, colorful leaves, and the simple comforts that make the season so special. But before we rush ahead, perhaps we should pause and ask ourselves:

Have we truly finished enjoying the season we're in?

Fields aren't harvested before the crops are ready. Every season unfolds exactly when it was designed to. As people of faith, perhaps we're invited to embrace that same rhythm. Our lives often move at a pace that encourages us to constantly think ahead—to the next holiday, the next milestone, the next season.

But Scripture gently reminds us that every season has purpose.

"To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven."
Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is wisdom in preparing for tomorrow. There is also wisdom in fully receiving today.

Preparing your home for fall doesn't require wishing summer away.
